The Art Kitchen is going to move to a more loosely based collective of folks who like making/art/craft etc. We’ll have tubs of art for workshops, demonstrations and outreach but until a group of people want to step up, the communal space will be on hiatus.
So, we’ve created a google group for anyone to organize classes/events and the like:

We just opened our February show of mail art with the theme of love. We received many postcards from around the world (the first two we received were from Spain and France) and had a lovely opening reception last Thursday with a “make your own mail art/valentine” station, red wine, and lots of candy hearts. To see images of all the artwork please click here.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY (2pm-7pm)
Homegrown Alabama and the Alabama Art Kitchen are joining together to present a Pumpkin Carving Contest Extravaganza! All we need now are the carvers- could that be you? You can either bring your own pumpkin to carve or pay $5 to carve one of ours. (To use one of ours we need to hear back by Wednesday 10/19 to get an idea of number of pumpkins). There will be an adult and kids contest separately. All the pumpkins will be auctioned off to benefit Homegrown Alabama and the Kitchen. So if you’re not into carving you can come and get one of the amazing artists pumpkins to proudly display for Halloween (while supporting our awesome organizations)!

Thursday, October 6 (Art Night) from 6-9pm, we have the opening for
our Resurrection show. Artists took unfinished pieces and mailed them
around the country so they could finish each other’s work
collaboratively. We’ll have work from artists you haven’t seen before
presented in a way you probably aren’t used to. The show will be
amazing, as will the company.
For those of you who weren’t able to make it out to our last
screenprinting class (or could and got an appetite for the medium),
we’re having another one Saturday, October 8 from 12-4pm. We wanted
this class to be more accessible, so it’s a sliding scale fee, $15-35.
If you can pay full price, please do, because your generosity helps
less fortunate members of the community afford these classes. You can
create a design to print during the class or bring a transparency with
your previous work on it (e-mail us for instructions).
POETRY AND SHORT STORY READING
And finally, we have a reading by Amanda Moore. On Friday, October 14
at 7pm, Amanda will be reading her poetry and short stories in the
gallery. Her visual art has been in our gallery shows, and she’s so
talented in so many ways that I just want to throw up. Don’t miss it!
And of course, come down and make art! If you aren’t a member, ask us
about becoming one

This show is going to be incredible. His work is amazing.
Quote from the artist himself:
I’ve been making music for 26 years. I find myself more and more moving deeper into music as a mystical, ritualistic, sacred vehicle for finding stillness. My worldly experience keeps me tethered- thankfully- as I navigate with you the ethereal unknown. There’s always three parts to this journey: 1) welcome; 2) spatialization & discontinuity; 3) safe return. This can take many forms, and embodies all possibilities in multiple directions on multiple planes. I use my 18-stringed H’arpeggione & 38-stringed harp guitar Big Red as the anchors around which all else (r)evolves. I use equal parts physicality, emotionality, intellect, and spiritual openness, finding calm in freneticism, extracting ecstatic joy from pure potential. I use my intuition to create the conditions for moving beyond the mundane into the realm of healing, to benefit ourselves and all we reach. Of course, this hasn’t addressed “what it sounds like” or “what style is it?” The answer is constantly unfolding, but can be summed up as “Yes.” Thanks for listening.
