We still have room in our amazing classes the Darkroom class this Saturday from 10-6 and the Screen-Printing class on the 23rd (it was postponed due to instructor illness). These are going to be absolutely fantastic classes with such wonderful instructors!

Also we’ve got a reception for the Creative Campus show Breaking Boundaries reception tomorrow evening (4/12) from 6:30-9:30 with a reading by Wendy Rawlings, University of Alabama Associate Professor of English. She will be reading excerpts from her novel, The Agnostics, written about a family and community coping with early ideas of a non-straight lifestyle in 20th century America

As always we have craft night Wednesday then we have a totally packed weekend!

Friday night (4/15) at 8 pm we have a showing of the experimental documentary (55 min) Who is Bozo Texino? by artist Bill Daniel. With a goal of tracing the true identity behind Bozo Texino, whose iconic hand-drawn cowboy logo has appeared on the sides of trains for nearly a century, Bill Daniel hopped boxcars with drifters and camped in hobo jungles, all the while collecting stories and images of a little known American folk art tradition.
Screened last month as part of the Juxtapoz film series at MoMA, NYC.

Then Saturday we’ll be having that amazing Darkroom class that you should email to register for right now and will also be doing a papermaking demonstration at the Sucarnochee Folklife Festival in Livinston, AL (only an hour away!) from 10-4 This festival is a week of activities features performances of traditional folk music, storytelling, craft demonstrations, a walking ghost tour, a cornbread cook-off, and the Sucarnochee 5k River Run.

Then on Sunday (4/17) we’ll be at both Ladyfest ( from 12-6 at Grace Aberdeen Habitat Alchemy at 2124 9th Street and doing a printmaking demostration from 1-6 at the Community Culture Fest sponsored by the Crossroads Community Center at UA apparently even Taylor Hicks (who I just learned won American Idol and is from Alabama and is a big deal) will be coming. Phew! That’s a lot of things for you to do this week!

Lots of art-filled love,

The Kitchen
